March 2005

TWO NEW BOOKS! Click on the covers to find out more!

In February/March, I had a wonderful trip to Brazil--half vacation, half work. I spent a week in Rio de Janeiro and Foz de Iguacu with my family, and then a terrific week working with the students at the Graded School in Sao Paulo.

Ipanema Beach, Rio de Janeiro

My daughter Anna at Iguacu Falls

With Alexandre Martins Fontes, whose company is publishing the Brazilian edition of A Single Shard

...and click here to see photos of the vacation.

Last fall I had a wonderful visit to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, at Rocky Mount Academy, Englewood Elementary and Edwards Middle schools. The awesome Odyssey of the Mind team at Englewood worked hard at fundraising so they could travel to the World Finals in Maryland, where they placed THIRD overall! They even had some money left over, and do you know what they did? They bought copies of WHEN MY NAME WAS KEOKO for their school classrooms!

Left to right: (front row) Allison Raper, Julia Amend; (middle row) Catherine Stuart Wallace, Annika Sinha, Aubrey Reeves; (back row) Catherine Hedgepeth, author Linda Sue Park, and Heather Werner.

Read about this terrific group of students!

I also spoke at Vermont College in the MFA for Children's Writing program in January, and at the Monroe Community College (Rochester NY) children's literature conference in March. Both terrific events. And in February I was in New York City signing MUNG-MUNG! at the Union Square Barnes and Noble as part of the Child Magazine's Best Books of the Year celebration.

Check out the latest entries in my reading blog.

My events schedule through June.

Coming this summer from Charlesbridge Books: YUM! YUCK! A foldout book of people sounds, co-authored with Julia Durango, illustrated by Sue Rama.
